Wimbledon fortnight is the traditional start of flowering time in English vineyards, 2010  has had ideal weather for flowering particularly in the south east, hot, dry, and not too windy .The picture shows Rondo in flower on the 24th June 2010 . By the middle of July most varieties had finished The general concensus seems to be that flowering finished about a week later than in 2009 . For those vineyards not affected by the frosts (around the 11th may) the crop potential is good.

Owen Elias at Fruit Focus

Owen Elias will be at Fruit Focus 2010, East Malling Research, East Malling, Kent on 21st July.I will be on the Vines to Wine Question panel at 2pm, with other luminaries, Roger Marchbank(UKVA), Frazer Thompson(Chapel Down) and Duncan McNeil(FAST).

First tanks arrive at Nutbourne/Redfold

The first of the Red fermenters has arrived at the new Nutbourne/Redfold Winery. The winery will be up and running for this years harvest. The joint venture will produce both still and bottle -fermented sparkling wines .The winery will have a production of around 100,000 bottles.
